FaceTime Partners with Brightmail to Eliminate Instant Messaging Spam

Industry Leaders Partner to Protect Against Threats Posed by Unsolicited Electronic Communications

SAN FRANCISCO and FOSTER CITY, Calif. - June 8, 2004 - FaceTime Communications, the leading provider of solutions that secure, manage, and extend instant messaging (IM) and other forms of real-time communications in the enterprise, today announced a new strategic partnership with Brightmail, the global leader in anti-spam technology, that will allow FaceTime to offer Brightmail's anti spam technology with its IM security products aimed at blocking spam and IM spam ("SPIM"), which threaten network and information security, disrupt worker productivity, and drive up storage costs. Together, FaceTime's industry-leading IMAuditor and Brightmail Anti-Spam™ will free customers of unwanted communications delivered via email and IM.

According to Ferris Research, 2 billion SPIM messages are expected to be sent in 2004, up from 500 million in 2003. Brightmail has predictably seen increasing demand for a spim-blocking option among its base of over 2,000 customers. Already the leading provider in world-class spam-prevention solutions, the company partnered with FaceTime to round out its offering with a technology equally adept at thwarting spim. FaceTime's IMAuditor controls all forms of spim through the combination of sophisticated content filtering and a patent-pending challenge-response mechanism to effectively prevent spim without blocking or delaying legitimate messages. FaceTime's solution is particularly attractive to financial institutions and other regulated industries, where communications are subject to many compliance and storage regulations. Eliminating spim means that these organizations no longer have to store irrelevant and unwanted messages.

"We are committed to listening to our customers and staying one step ahead of them by providing the tools they need as their businesses evolve," said Francois Lavaste, VP of Marketing. "Our customers have come to expect the best security and management solutions from us and we are pleased to offer them FaceTime's leading spim-blocking technology."

As part of the alliance, FaceTime will have the opportunity to sell into Brightmail's established network of over 75 value added resellers (VARs).

"As the occurrence of spim grows in frequency, further disrupting worker productivity and posing threats to corporate security, we are experiencing a rising demand for our unique spim prevention solutions," said FaceTime Senior Vice President of Business Development and Marketing Christopher S. Dean. "By combining our IM expertise with Brightmail's leadership in anti-spam technology, customers can benefit from two best-of-breed solutions for complete prevention of unwanted electronic communications."
