FaceTime Announces AOL® Certification for RTMatrix™: Platform for Developing IM and Presence Applications

FOSTER CITY, Calif. - August 3, 2004 - FaceTime Communications, a leading provider of solutions that secure, manage, and extend instant messaging (IM) and other forms of real-time communications, today announced RTMatrix™ to meet growing developer demand for APIs that can extend IM and presence awareness into myriad ERP, Web-based portals, Web conferencing and other business-critical applications and systems.

Further expanding on its long and well-established relationship with FaceTime, America Online, Inc. extended its AOL® Instant Messenger™ (AIM®) Certified Application Partner Agreement to include RTMatrix, a free IM and presence platform and tool kit that will be made available to developers that leverage the security, management and compliance benefits of FaceTime IM Director™ or IMAuditor™.

"With enterprise IM connectivity becoming a reality, we are pleased to see FaceTime making it possible for businesses to push the expanded reach of IM and the true potential of presence deeper into critical enterprise functions," said Edmund Fish, senior vice president and general manager, Desktop Messaging, America Online, Inc. "With RTMatrix, a proven enabler of IM and presence aware applications, developers can extend presence into any new application that would benefit from contextual real-time communications."

Following last year's innovative work on integrating presence services with BEA WebLogic Platform 8.1, IBM WebSphere Portal, Oracle Application Server Portal and shipping integration with Cisco MeetingPlace Server, RTMatrix is being delivered with new, intuitive tools that help third-party developers prepare applications for a new era in the way workers, partners and customers communicate.

"Microsoft's agreement to provide joined, multi-network instant messaging in the enterprise gives large companies the go-ahead to start building IM and presence-enabled applications that foster the kind of close collaboration among workers, partners and customers that was never before possible," said Matt Cain, Communication and Collaboration analyst at META Group. "Vendors that expose the APIs of their IM and presence developer platforms and provide developer kits that allow for the quick and easy extension of IM and presence are doing much to catalyze this next step in the march toward a real-time enterprise."

Providing support for Java, J2EE, and Web services, RTMatrix features network independent APIs for session management, presence and alerts, identity management, and application framework. Field-tested developer content will be updated to include a comprehensive reference guide and libraries, application examples and code snippets, an application deployment wizard, and full developer support.

"With workers becoming increasingly mobilized, and partners and customers wanting to collaborate more closely than ever, the dawn of the decentralized enterprise is upon us," said FaceTime CEO Kailash Ambwani. "For organizations to compete, they will need to compete in real time. RTMatrix gives them the power to do that."

Many of the world's leading technological bellwethers are already working with RTMatrix as part of FaceTime's beta development program. For more information about the program, please visit www.facetime.com/developer. RTMatrix will be generally available in Q4, 2004.
